About the Book
Matthew Dowling thought he knew where his life was headed. Raised in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, built a successful career, won election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and spent years serving the community he loved.
Then everything changed.
In the span of a few years, Dowling faced addiction, recovery, a near-fatal diabetic coma, vision loss, the end of his marriage, the loss of his ability to drive, and the uncertainty that comes when carefully constructed plans suddenly disappear.
This is not a political book. It is a book about faith, fatherhood, recovery, public service, second chances, and hope — the story of the climb that begins after the fall.
"Your story is not over. The mountain is still there. And the climb is still worth it."

"Matthew's story is one of the most honest accounts of public service I've ever read. It doesn't flinch from the hard parts — and that's exactly what makes it so powerful."

"This book is for anyone who has ever fallen short of who they wanted to be — and wondered if there was still a way forward. The answer Matthew gives is yes, and he shows you how."

"A rare combination of political memoir and personal reckoning. Matthew writes with the kind of clarity that only comes from having lived through something real."
